With most people in America rejecting the Obama administrations socialized health care attempt, there is still a need to bring health costs down, and to that end a new generation of wireless devices able to monitor and give medical feedback are either already here, or in the pipeline getting close to being able to monitor the vast majority of health conditions that exist, says Dr. Eric J. Topol,
Topol is the chief medical officer of the recently launched non-profit “West Wireless Health Institute,” which exists to help facilitate the merger of health, medicine and wireless technology.
Some of the already existing devices include bandages and pill with sensors which are able to measure and transmit data from vital signs and other health information - in real time - to the patient, caregiver, doctor or medical center, empowering them to give an individualized response.
Topol says people are ready for this with the escalating cost of care, and with the global connectivity we now exist in, along with genomic discoveries, will significantly reduce the cost of health care while improving its outcomes.
