Robot Trends | Fashion Robot on Catwalk Showing Wedding Dress
Robot Trends
Japan has this obsession with creating robots that simulate humans, and they continue that with their latest robot HRP-4C, or their “cybernetic human.”
The use by Japanese deigner Yumi Katsura this time around was to display one of her latest wedding dresses, which you can see the robot walk in in the video at an Osake fashion show this week.
I’ve always thought the focus of the Japanese on these human acting and looking robots was and is a waste of time and money. There is almost no market for it other than displaying them in as a novelty like in the fashion show, and the costs are very high to make them, coming in at between $10-$20 million each.
Also because of the risk of falling, which isn’t unusual with these types of robots, the damage that can happen also makes it prohibitive in most ways.
Other than a vanity toy for the rich or a marketing ploy for the Japanese robotic industry, this is really a large waste that could be used for useful robots that actually help people and make money.
