With the highly successful cadre of wedding-themed shows on its WE TV channel, Rainbow media, the programming arm of Cablevision, is extending that popularity to a new channel which will focus on wedding-related programming.
Some of the popular shows on WE TV include Bridezillas, My Fair Wedding, Platinum Weddings, and Amazing Wedding Cakes.
The strategy is to add more parenting-focused programming to WE TV, while using the existing popular wedding programming to give a solid start to the new wedding channel, which is scheduled to launch in August 2009.
It’s possible WE TV may partner with one of the popular wedding publishers to help market the new wedding channel.
A major reason for this move is the staying power of wedding themes, which remain strong no matter what the economic situation, as it’s considered a priority for most people no matter what the current circumstances are.
