Health Trends | India Entrepreneurs Finding Solutions to Health Challenges
Health Trends
Maybe some of the answers to health care challenges are too simple for those in the western world, but many are starting to look to India as a model for not only finding solutions to rising health care costs, but providing excellent care at the same time.
According to Tim Brown, the head of Ideo, a design consultancy, using an automobile metaphor, he says, “In health care, as in life, there is need for both Ferraris and Tata Nanos.”
Dr. Yock of Stanford agrees, saying we must embrace the value of beign frugal while improving the medical sector.
The problem is most health innovators always think in terms of Rolls-Royces or Ferraris, rather than the many times the equivalent of a Tata Nano would do.
Another important part of entrepreneurial innovation is in how the price structure is utilized. In many cases, a tiered pricing structure is used, where wealthier patients are offered more services like rooms that are air conditioned or higher-end meals.
What this does is help provide care for those who are the poorest, who can than be treated without destroying the health care industry.
