Retail Trend: Coca Cola Offers Free Vitaminwater for AirTran Airways Passengers
There’s no doubt that one of the best strategies for retailers during tough times is to offer something cheap or free; a retail trend that is always popular.
In the past, the idea of using the word “cheap” in advertising was considered a big mistake, but that’s no longer the case, and “free” is definitely in.
So what Coca Cola is doing for college basketball fans is offering Vitaminwater free to fans flying from Atlanta to Detroit. Fans get the water right at the gate.
“We’re excited to be able to partner with our friends at the Coca-Cola Company to offer free vitaminwater to our passengers that are headed to the big games in Detroit this weekend,” said Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways’ vice president of marketing and sales. “Staying well hydrated is as important in the air as it is on the court no matter which team you’re pulling for this weekend.”
Consumers are always happy to receive free ‘anything,’ and so the retail trend of creating good will, while hopefully nabbing some new customers is a strategy here to stay.
